One mistake that you can do that can damage your virgin hair extensions is washing them too vigorously. After installing the extensions, ensure that you at least wait 48 hours before washing them. This allows the tape to cure and also to become strong and get the hold that you are looking for. You should not wash your hair more than two times a week. Always try to wash your hair in a gentle manner and avoid touching the tapes.

2. Air Pollution

Nothing damages your virgin hair extensions like smoke from cigarettes, car exhaust fumes and smog. Smoky air contains particles that cost the strands of your hair, dulling the shine and colour of your hair extensions. The only way you can avoid smoke from damaging your hair is by rinsing your hair at least twice a week.

3. Harsh Drying Products

Using products like sulfates, phosphates, gels, sprays and shampoos can strip moisture and natural oils from your hair. Using harsh chemicals on your hair can end up damaging the hair cuticle of your hair extensions. Alternatively, you can use gentle sulfate-free products like Indique hair care moisturising shampoo which will not damage your extension.

4. The Wrong Hair Brush

Using the wrong brush on your hair can pull or snap your extensions. The best brush to use is a loop brush which is gentle on your hair. Once you have your loop brush, ensure that you brush your extensions from the ends going upwards to remove tangles without causing damage.

5. Heat

Heat is another substance that can damage your hair extensions. You would not want to burn your hair by using styling tools that are too hot. The maximum temperature that you should use for styling extension is 185 degrees. Anything beyond that will definitely cause damage. You should also use a heat protectant spray every time you style your 100% human hair extensions to protect them from heat damage.

The most important thing you can do to protect your virgin hair extensions from damage is to listen to your hairstylist. Your hairstylist is a professional and they know what can work for and against your hair.

Avoid washing your hair vigorously and too often, stop using highlights, stay away from smoke, dry products, use a loop brush and avoid too much heat on your hair and your hair extensions will last longer.
